Upcoming software update for Satio makes it more like Vivaz

In my recently published preview of the Vivaz I mentioned that the software is one of the key differences between Satio and Vivaz. It’s been updated quite a bit compared to Satio, and I was wondering if Satio owners would be able to get this update as well. It’s now been confirmed by Sony Ericsson’s Rikard Skogberg that Satio users will be receiving pretty much the same software in an upcoming software update, which is just around the corner.

The update will include quite a few changes, including support for higher resolution video recordings. It’ll now support up to WVGA (854 x 480 pixels) and thereby fit the entire widescreen when recording videos. That’s nice. Other changes include:

  • Uploading of pictures to Facebook and videos to YouTube, both directly from the Media application
  • An added link in the Messaging application to the thirdparty Conversations application
  • DLNA support for easy transfer of audio and still pictures (no video support)
  • Minor user interface improvements
  • Facebook application has finally been preloaded in the software

Rikard tells us that many Satio users will be able to update their phone in a few days. Operator branded handsets will have to wait a bit, but it should take no more than a couple of weeks.
